There is no place like Southern California for those who want to enjoy the fruits of the vine. Although wine tasting has historically been a pastime enjoyed by the grown-ups, there are plenty of opportunities to uncork your favorite bottle and make your winery visit a family affair. Here are the top five family friendly wineries in San Diego.

Bernardo winery

Bernardo Winery
Bernardo Winery is San Diego’s oldest operating vineyard, producing and serving wines from locally sourced grapes since 1889. This family-run village is home to four vineyards, an old barrel room and a historic winemaking facility that showcases various pieces of antique winemaking equipment for visitors to explore. Over the years, families have grown to love everything from the charming antique décor and art shops to the shaded patios in the courtyard where kids can enjoy some live music and get their groove on.

Milagro winery

Milagro Winery
With Ramona boasting the largest density of wineries in San Diego, Milagro Winery produces roughly 3,000 cases of wine per year made exclusively from estate-grown fruit. In addition to their award-winning Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé of Sangiovese and Milagro Chardonnay, they also produce a sweet, invigorating blend that can only be described as a decadent blueberry port. The recently renovated tasting room sits atop a scenic hillside that overlooks the vineyard. Just outside are a mini dog park, play structure, bocce court and cornhole boards. Children are welcome to scale the giant natural boulders and explore the grounds while parents sip delicious regional wines.

Rancho guejito vineyard

Rancho Guejito Vineyard
Encompassing an impressive 23,000 acres, Rancho Guejito is home to one of the earliest vineyards planted in California. The spacious grounds have often been described as a ranch “that cattlemen see only in their dreams,” and a place “where the old west is alive and well.” The tasting room is located at the historic Rockwood Ranch, which is situated closer to the southern tip of the property. While bounce houses and lawn games are always available for the kiddos, the vineyard hosts a monthly Sunday Funday, where families of all sizes can partake in concerts, hayrides, and much more.

Cordiano winery

Cordiano Winery
If you want a family-friendly experience that is more off the beaten path, you cannot go wrong with Cordiano. Nestled deep in the hills of the San Pasqual Valley, the journey to get to this hidden gem is full of twists and turns. Upon arrival, visitors will instantly fall in love with the winery’s breathtaking views and casual vibes. Since 2008, Cordiano has become a staple in the community for its Italian hospitality, extensive wine selection and mouthwatering pastas and wood-fired pizzas.

Orfila vineyard and winery

Orfila Vineyard and Winery
If you are looking for a pleasant drive in the country or en route to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, you will not be disappointed by this picturesque boutique winery. Located on a 70-acre estate in the San Pasqual Valley of Escondido, Orfila has received more than 1,300 medals in national and international competitions for its critically acclaimed wines using Italian and French varietals. The property features a large grass area, food trucks, live music and picnic tables located in the back known as the “Designated Kid Zone.”
