The 114th Charity Ball
Reflecting San Diego’s Commitment to our Community and the Power of Philanthropy
The 114th Charity Ball “Come Fly with Me,” San Diego’s grandest commitment to the children of our community, promises to be a dazzling night of culture and celebration in support of the Chadwick Center for Children & Families at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, a department that provides services of health and well-being to abused, neglected, and traumatized children and their families. The legendary, black-tie event, chaired by our co-publisher Danitza Villanueva, the first Latina to serve in this role, will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the Hotel del Coronado.
“The essential services delivered by Chadwick Center for Children & Families can only exist through the power of grace, understanding and support that has been the hallmark of The Charity Ball’s support of Rady Children’s Hospital,” shared Villanueva. “The generosity of our wonderful community allows Chadwick Center for Children and Families to remain at the forefront of helping these children with trauma.”
As the largest children’s advocacy center in San Diego County, the Chadwick Center plays a critical role in the County response to child abuse and neglect through coordination of the San Diego County Child Victim-Witness Protocol and the weekly Child Protection Team. The Chadwick Center provides immediate victim support and advocacy to ensure that the child and their non-offending caregivers get access to multiple resources and support services. Vital programs include prevention programing, trauma counseling, parenting groups and a program for children who have experienced abuse and trauma and have been asked to testify in court, providing education on the court process and techniques to minimize the anxiety related to court testimony.
For more than a century, the volunteer-organized Charity Ball has brought together community leaders and supporters from throughout our region for a night of elegance, recognition, entertainment, and commitment to children in need.
“While building on the traditions of 114 years, my dedicated committee and I are planning several surprises,” said Villanueva. “The décor, entertainment and desserts will be unique with touches of Latin-American traditions. The entertainment is coming from far and wide and will leave a salting impression of a night well celebrated. All of these elements are very close to my heart. This will be the gala you want to go to!”
“I graciously invite our kind and generous community to join me at this wonderful event,” shared Villanueva.
