Adapting to the new normal in healthcare
During these abnormal times we are reminded of the things that are most important to us all. Our loved ones are always in our thoughts as we want to keep each other safe and healthy. In early May, as SK Clinic and Medical Spa began to increase services and return to normal operations, they took measured steps to ensure the safety of all of their guests and staff.
As many businesses are reopening, some of these steps are becoming the new normal. At banks, grocery stores, restaurants and at SK Clinic, masks must be worn at all times. There are specific traffic patterns and spacing of appointments to limit the confluence of patients at any one time. The cleaning and sterilizing protocols, while always rigorous at SK Clinic, have taken on a “new normal.”
SK Clinic has been scheduling appointments for those patients that were canceled while the shutdown was in place. They are currently seeing patients for surgery, injectables and laser services. Dr. Krant has always had a busy practice and continues to perform breast and skin cancer reconstruction as well as a full range of elective surgeries. For now, their aestheticians and massage therapists are not able to resume services but when it is deemed safe to resume, they will be sure to let you know.
Dr. Krant and his wife, Lyn, have watched the news reports of the virus’ progression and protests around the world and are saddened by what is happening in 2020. They have seen some young people unable to participate in the peaceful protests as they are responsible for their aging parents and do not want to put them at risk of infection. Similarly, as healthcare providers, for the safety of their patients, they too wish they could do more to engage in these difficult times.
Dr. Krant says his instincts are to get involved and participate, to give hugs and loving support but the new normal is social distancing and they are not able to offer that kind of comfort. What they will do is donate a percentage of their July income to the BET + United Way COVID-19 Relief fund. The health and financial devastation wrought by COVID-19 is disproportionately affecting African Americans and they want to help. This fund will disburse grants to local community-based organizations with a focus on families in need of food assistance and emergency support services.
At SK Clinic they are adapting to the new normal and hoping that we all will be better for living through these tumultuous times. To learn more about the office protocols that Dr. Krant has initiated please visit their website at www.sk-clinic.com/coronavirusrules
