SAN YSIDRO HEALTH KIMBALL HIGHLAND
In the heart of National City, a community that has seen challenges in accessible healthcare, a beacon of hope is rising. San Ysidro Health Kimball Highland, a groundbreaking 134,000 square foot health facility, is taking shape with each concrete pour, symbolizing a transformative journey from rock bottom to new heights.
This $53 million community investment is more than just a building; it is a testament to a commitment to holistic well-being, community engagement, and breaking down barriers that have hindered access to essential services. Kimball Highland is designed to connect families with health services, affordable housing, transportation, and community engagement – a comprehensive approach to community health.
At the core of this visionary project is the integration of a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) on the first floor, a Federally Qualified Health Center on the second floor, and a 3-story underground parking structure. The inclusion of affordable housing for seniors and families promotes an intergenerational approach to community building. This transit-oriented village, situated adjacent to the Waters Nutrition Center, shopping centers, cultural institutions, and a beautifully refurbished public park, is seamlessly connected by a bikeway to the San Diego Bay.
San Ysidro Health, in collaboration with project partners, envisions a space where agencies can channel their efforts into serving the community rather than overcoming barriers. By addressing issues like transportation, isolation, and outreach, the Kimball Highland project aims to create an environment where families and seniors can be served, integrated, and empowered more effectively.
Kevin Mattson, President and CEO of San Ysidro Health, shared the significance of the health complex with GB Magazine: “Our Kimball-Highland location is San Ysidro Health’s most ambitious ground-up construction project to date. We are excited to increase access to area families offering comprehensive multi-disciplinary health care, including dental services for all under one roof.”
The thoughtful planning of Kimball Highland is evident in its aim to facilitate availability, accessibility, and continuity of services. By doing so, the project aims to eliminate barriers to healthcare access and utilization for the area’s most vulnerable population. The facility is projected to serve 18,956 patients and generate 60,941 clinic visits in its first year, showcasing its potential impact on the community’s health landscape.
Moreover, the project is not only about physical well-being but also economic empowerment. Kimball Highland is expected to create approximately 200 permanent jobs, contributing to the economic vitality of the community.
As the structure rises, so does the optimism for the future of the community it serves. With each milestone reached in its construction, Kimball Highland stands as a testament to the transformative power of community-driven healthcare initiatives, offering a glimpse into a future where health, housing, and hope converge for generations to come.
San Ysidro Health has been dedicated to its mission in San Diego County since 1969. As experts in healthcare and social services, they seek support to build and equip their new National City facility.
