San Diego Latin Film Festival
Showcasing Latino Cinema & Culture
San Diego has long been a hub for Latino culture and community, so it is no surprise that it is the welcoming home of the San Diego Latino Film Festival (SDLFF). The SDLFF is an 11 day celebration of Latino Cinema, Arts & Culture presenting films from Latin America, the United States, and Spain. This year, the SDLFF celebrates its 27th year with an impressive festival that features over 170 films, including Ema by Chile’s most prolific filmmaker, Pablo Larraín. The drama starring Mariana Di Girolamo and Gael García Bernal captivated audiences with its tale of a dancer, a difficult decision, and the challenging road to redemption. But the festival also boasts a variety of other genres including dark comedies like El Cuento de Las Comadrejas, crime like Polvo, sport-centric like Campeones, and bio-pics like Yo No Me Llamo Ruben Blades (and everything in between).
Along with the regularly scheduled films, this year’s festival features a Chicano Film Retrospective, the 2nd annual Migrant Voices Film Competition, SOMOS LGBTQ movie showcase, the 5th Annual Sabor Latino – Food, Beer, & Wine Fest, celebrity appearances, and more. The extravagant celebration of Latinx film and culture was will close with the Awards Ceremony & Closing Night Gala which recognizes the outstanding work of some of the greatest in film. As is proven every year, the San Diego Latin Film Festival is an event that continues to attract fans old and new.
