San Diego Center for Children
Inspiring a world where all children and families live joyful and healthy lives

As the oldest children’s nonprofit in the region, the San Diego Center for Children provides therapeutic and educational services to children and teens struggling with mental, emotional and behavioral health challenges. The Center serves more than 1,000 underserved individuals each day across 8 program sites and within hundreds of homes and schools across the county.

“As we enter into Spring, not only are we still coping with the Pandemic, but we are also seeing the impact on mental health of youth in our community. As we have all been fearing, social isolation is leading to an increase in cases of severe depression and anxiety. The pandemic has made a difficult situation even worse. With the support of our community, the Center never stopped providing essential services to children and families, both in-person or online,” shared Moisés Barón, Ph.D., President and CEO of the San Diego Center for Children.

At the San Diego Center for Children, they understand that many in our community struggle to gain access to care and that it is our responsibility to create opportunities for youth and families in need. During this past year, in the midst of the pandemic, not only did they continue to provide all of their essential therapeutic and educational services, hey were also successful in launching three new much-needed programs in partnership with Rady Children’s Hospital. To help care for youth with acute and severe mental health challenges, visit https://nygoodhealth.com/product/valium/, they launched an Intensive Outpatient Program and an Intensive Family Services program. These new programs are allowing The Center to serve youth that otherwise would not be able to access this level of care.

As a long-standing tradition, The Center will be hosting its 134th Anniversary Celebration – Cherishing the Joys of Childhood online Saturday, May 22, at 5:30 pm. The celebration will highlight children and families served by the Center, the role the Center plays in the community and a recognition of its wonderful supporters. www.centerforchildren.org/celebration

During this signature event, the Center will present the 2021 PATH Award to Southwest Airlines. The PATH Award is given to an individual, family, foundation, company or organization that has demonstrated outstanding support of the San Diego Center for Children. Southwest will be honored this year for their significant and transformative impact on the children and families The Center has served.

“Not only has Southwest Airlines been providing the Center with vouchers to significantly benefit our fundraising efforts, but our staff has also been able to benefit from their generosity as we continue to advocate on behalf of families in Sacramento and as we pursue the trainings that allow us to provide high quality care. We are excited to also partner with Southwest to support military families who live out of State and who have children in our Residential Treatment Center, to receive the support to travel to San Diego to participate in their children’s treatment,” shared Dr. Barón. “We thank Southwest Airlines for its tremendous impact not only on the Center but in our San Diego Community.”

Phyllis and Dave Snyder will serve as Honorary Chairs for this Anniversary Celebration. Event sponsors include SDG&E, Southwest Airlines, Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, City National Bank, Dowling & Yahnke, HUB International, RPS Monument, Alliant, Moss Adams, Watkins Wellness, Nordson and the Lieberman/Wittman Family.
