Supporting Foster Children & Restaurants

May is National Foster Care Month and you can help raise awareness about foster care, and give back at the same time!

Due to Covid-19, businesses have suffered like never before. Many have closed permanently, while others are struggling to keep their doors open. In spite of the circumstances, over 20 businesses have stepped up to show their support for our community. This year, people can help the community in two ways by supporting local restaurants recover from the impact of COVID-19, while at the same time raising funds that will directly support foster children.

In honor of National Foster Care Month, Promises2Kids will host its 3rd Annual Foodies 4 Foster Kids campaign.
From May 1-31, each participating establishment listed here will donate proceeds from a featured menu item, to help meet the needs of San Diego foster children. Foodies 4 Foster Kids partners include:

264 Fresco
Artesano Taco
Batch & Box
Broad Street Dough Co.
Canteen Coffee Roasters
Dixie Pops
Encontro North Park
Extraordinary Desserts

Funds raised from dining out at a local restaurant during Foodies 4 Foster Kids will:
• ensure that siblings living apart have opportunities to visit each other
• provide guidance and resources for foster youth to complete their higher education
• ensure that foster children can participate in extracurricular activities
• have a place to go where they feel safe and loved
Recently, sisters Kara (15) and Kelly (12) had the opportunity to reunite and spend quality time together to celebrate Kara’s 15th birthday. During their visit, Kelly was excited to give Kara a #24 necklace (in honor of Kobe Bryant), which Kara always wanted. Kelly also brought her personal sketch book and let Kara look through it. “Nobody gets to look through this, so I brought it to show you as part of your gift,” said Kelly. Kara was impressed with her younger sister’s art. At the mall, the sisters were in search of a connecting heart necklace, which they were able to find and immediately helped each other put on. Each sister took home a piece of the heart to remember each other by.
This is just one example of how lives can be changed, thanks to the kindness of others.

Unable to get to a restaurant? Individuals can still help by donating what would normally be spent on a meal at give.promises2kids.org/foodies4fosterkids
