Camp Connect

Each year, there are over 3,000 current and former foster youth in San Diego County who entered foster care due to abuse and neglect, through no fault of their own.

As a result, many foster children are separated from their brothers and sisters. Fortunately, through Promises2Kids’ Camp Connect program, siblings have the opportunity to reunite monthly to maintain their relationships and create new memories to replace those they would rather forget.

Twins Charlotte (14), Cameron (14), and their younger sister Jessica (10) all entered foster care in 2018 and have been living apart in separate homes, and have been attending Camp Connect events for the past three years.

During a recent outing at the San Diego Safari Park, Charlotte greeted her siblings with a big smile and hug. Always taking on the motherly role, she went through their belongings, checking that they were fully prepared for the overnight event. She checked for a jacket, sleeping bag, pillow and more.

The three enjoyed a private tram, delicious dinner, private walking tour of the lions and elephants, campfire complete with s’mores, and an exciting cheetah run.

The siblings always have fun and share special moments together. Jessica shared how much she appreciates when Charlotte puts her arm around her and comforts her, and when Cameron introduces her to new friends.

It is moments like these that are made possible thanks to generous community members. To learn more about how you can make a difference and create a brighter future for foster children, visit www.Promises2Kids.org.
