Miracle Babies
Together For A Better Beginning
Miracle Babies is a San Diego based non-profit organization created to support families with babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Miracle Babies understands the emotional weight and physical stress of can be overwhelming, so they have made it their mission to provide transportation and supportive services to parents with hospitalized newborns. Their tagline, “Together for a better beginning”, reflects the importance of this family connection in the critical early weeks and months of an infant’s life and its linkage to improved health outcomes.
Founded in December of 2009 by Dr. Sean Daneshmand, the organization is celebrating its twelfth year in operation. Since its founding, the organization has expanded to other areas of Southern California including Orange and Los Angeles Counties. Dr. Sean Daneshmand is the Medical Director of the maternal-fetal medicine program at Scripps Clinic and brings extensive experience to the table as a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist who has cared for many women with high-risk pregnancies. His wife, Marjan Daneshmand, is an attorney who owns and operates her own practice. Together, the Daneshmands have combined their professional expertise to change the NICU experience from one of fear and helplessness to one of empowerment and positivity.
The organization strikes a personal note for the Daneshmands, as the couple experienced their own high-risk pregnancy with the premature birth of their daughter, Natalie. From this, the Daneshmands made a commitment to provide support and aid to those who are undergoing the same experience.
Although babies are receiving an extremely high level of care in the NICU, it is still an emotionally taxing experience for family members to be separated from their child during this time. The organization offers services such as transportation programs, care packages, and miracle hours, in which Miracle Babies provides meals and crafting activities for all NICU families. These services aim to lower the stress level experienced when an infant is in the NICU and foster a supportive community. Even during the most difficult of times, Miracle Babies aspires to let NICU families know that they are not alone.
As a non-profit organization, Miracle Babies relies on funds raised at events such as their annual Gala to sustain their operations for the upcoming year. This event brings together prominent top businesses, as well as social and philanthropic leaders, for an evening of gourmet cuisine, spectacular live auction opportunities, and dancing. This year’s event program will include honoring Dr. Edith Eger, bestselling author and Holocaust Survivor, and healthcare hero Dr. John Lamberti, pediatric cardiovascular surgeon.
The Gala aims to raise the funds needed to provide essential services to families with babies in the NICU. Each year, Miracle Babies supports over 8,000 families through their programs and sees continued growth of their reach to families in need. Miracle Babies programs fulfill their mission and lead to better beginnings for precious babies.
