Mingei International Welcomes New Chair
Jennifer Findley of JFiN Collective will succeed long time Mingei International Museum Trustee, and current Board Chairman, Maureen (Mo) King this July. Mo served as Mingei’s Capital Campaign chair for its $50 million dollar transformational renovation, which revealed an exciting and beautifully transformed new space in Balboa Park, in 2021. Mo is now passing the torch as Chairman to Jennifer.
Jennifer is an art advisor for and founder of the JFiN Collective. At the JFiN Collective, Jennifer provides art advisory and consulting services and helps both established and emerging collectors develop, create, and maintain curated collections. Jennifer is an avid Op-Art collector, focusing her personal collection on groundbreaking artists from the 1960s such as Bridget Riley and Yvaral. Before founding the JFiN Collective, Jennifer was a trademark and copyright litigator working for leading international social media and fashion companies. Through her journey, she has learned the ins and outs of curated art collections and has developed strong relationships with the leading galleries and auctions houses around the globe. She works closely with both established as well as cutting-edge artists and young creatives.
As a resident of La Jolla, Jennifer is a proud supporter of the San Diego art and design community, and has a special passion for Mingei. A founding board member of Soho House San Diego, Jennifer serves on numerous philanthropic boards, and navigates the art world with her husband, Carl, and their two young daughters, Margot and Poppy. Jennifer believes in exposing children to the power of art, and her daughters love attending Mini Mingei art-making activities and playing on the Nikigator at Mingei.
In her new role, Jennifer will bring together her passion for art and design with Mingei’s mission of sharing new perspectives on folk art, craft, and design with a growing audience. Jennifer is excited about Mingei’s work with living artists who share fresh perspectives through the traditional mediums of folk art and craft. Contemporary work has been highlighted in recent commissions, the PIÑATAS exhibition, and the coming exhibition Blue Gold – The Science and Art of Indigo, a part of Getty’s Pacific Standard Time initiative, which will contain several new pieces from contemporary artists and craftspeople.
She is also passionate about Mingei’s commitment to design. Mingei founded San Diego Design Week in 2020, which played a key role in San Diego/Tijuana successfully being named the 2024 World Design Capital. As Chairman, Jennifer is excited to create new connections between the Museum and the greater San Diego arts and design community.
Mo will continue to serve on Mingei’s board of directors as Chairman Emerita and is thrilled for Jennifer to serve as Chairman as Mingei carries forward exciting plans for innovative exhibitions and events in our region.
