MACARIO GUTIERREZ’S JOURNEY WITH SAN YSIDRO HEALTH
Meet Macario Gutierrez, Chairman of the Board at San Ysidro Health. He has been a dedicated member of the board of directors, working tirelessly to support the mission of San Ysidro Health – to improve the health and well-being of the community served with access for all.
Macario’s connection to San Ysidro Health Board started when his daughter became ill and needed treatment. The care and support provided by the nurses and doctors, especially Nurse Hilda who organized blood drives, left a lasting impression on his family. The exceptional care that his daughter received inspired him to join the board of directors and give back to the community. Macario’s personal experience with cancer further solidified his appreciation for the care provided by San Ysidro Health. He recalls the support of Dr. James Cevallos and the entire care team, who quickly diagnosed him and began his treatment. Today, he celebrates another birthday and remains grateful for their compassion and expertise.
As a longtime member of the board of directors, Macario has seen the growth and success of San Ysidro Health firsthand. He credits the hard work and dedication of the clinic’s leadership, and staff, especially Kevin Mattson, President & CEO of San Ysidro Health, for their commitment to serving the community where it is needed most.
For Macario, the heart of San Ysidro Health lies in the idea of serving those who are sick with love and compassion. It is a sentiment that is reflected in the beautiful mural at their flagship clinic in San Ysidro, which shows the unity, love, and care that San Ysidro Health strives to provide every day. The mural tells the nonprofit’s story from its humble beginnings in 1969, guided by the compassionate principles advocated by Macario, to its present role of providing affordable health services to over 145,000 patients in San Diego County.
In line with its commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of San Diego, San Ysidro Health is building a state-of-the-art clinic in Julian, scheduled to open in late 2024, which will provide critical services, including medical, dental and behavioral health along with social services. Additionally, they are opening a state-of-the-art 42,000 square foot facility in the heart of National City, their largest development project to date, featuring a comprehensive health center for the entire family and a San Diego PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) site.
Macario and the team at San Ysidro Health remain committed to their mission of improving the health and well-being of the communities served with access for all, especially during these challenging times in the world of healthcare.
