MAAC
Supporting San Diego Through the Pandemic and Beyond
As we embark on 2022, we are happy to share the successes MAAC accomplished in the last twelve months. Last year, their economic impact in the region exceeded $150 million: from distributing 639 tons of food and providing $4.6 million in direct aid to families who were financially impacted by the pandemic, to ensuring equitable access to vaccination to more than 45,000 people per month. Most importantly, these numbers represent thousands of lives that have been transformed by MAAC’s work. They leveraged our staff, resources and relationships to assure being the critical community partner that San Diego has relied on for decades.
For the past 56 years, MAAC has been a trusted ally to children, youth, adults, and seniors throughout San Diego County including the Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities they serve and understanding of their challenges and strengths allowed them to successfully deliver and expand services.
MAAC has evolved through the years, and so too, have the needs of the community. As we transition to 2022, MAAC will focus on building the region’s economic prosperity. Already, they have made a $1.2 million investment to expand workforce and other economic development opportunities for lower- and middle-income households. They are working on the construction of 1200+ new units of affordable housing in San Diego and Imperial Counties to increase the number of safe, quality homes for working families.
Since MAAC’s beginnings, they have been an advocate that uses principles of diversity, equity and inclusion as driving forces for their work in the community. These principles are part of their DNA. Now, they are doubling down on their efforts. MAAC remains steadfast in their commitment to help people build the lives they want and deserve.
