ANNOUNCING JOANNE FRANCISCUS AS ITS NEW CEO
The Legal Aid Society of San Diego (LASSD) is proud to announce the appointment of Joanne Franciscus as its new Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director.
Over her eleven-year career at LASSD, Joanne has served as a Staff Attorney, Lead Attorney, Senior Attorney, Managing Attorney, and, most recently, as the firm’s first Chief Operating Officer, where she oversaw day-to-day operations and helped to build LASSD’s culture and vision.
Joanne came to LASSD after eight years of private practice at a Carlsbad law firm, where, as a Partner, she represented plaintiffs in personal injury, workplace sexual harassment, and medical malpractice.
In 2011, Joanne was selected for a competitive Legal and Policy Fellowship at Polaris Project in Washington, D.C. Polaris Project is a survivor-centered, justice- and equity-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to ending human trafficking. Polaris operates the U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline and the largest known dataset on human trafficking in North America. From 2011 to 2019, Joanne was the volunteer Regional Director of Not for Sale, a global anti-human trafficking nonprofit organization.
A New Jersey native, Joanne earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Criminal Justice from the University of Richmond. She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law. She and her husband, their 2 dogs and cat, enjoy running, hiking, wine tasting, and movies.

La Sociedad de asistencia legal de San Diego (LASSD) anuncia con orgullo la designación de Joanne Franciscus como nueva directora ejecutiva y directora general.
A lo largo de sus once años en LASSD, Joanne ha cumplido los roles de abogada, abogada senior, abogada gerente y hasta la fecha, primera gerente general operativa, donde su función era la de supervisar diariamente las operaciones y ayudar con la construcción de la cultura y visión de LASSD.
Luego de ocho años en la práctica privada en una firma de Carlsbad, donde como socia representaba a querellantes en juicios por daños personales, abusos sexuales en sitios de trabajo y mala praxis médicas, decidió unirse a LASSD.
En el 2011 fue elegida para la beca Legal and Policy del Polaris Project de Washington D.C. El Proyecto Polaris es una organización sin fines de lucro centrada en los sobrevivientes, motivada por la equidad y la justicia que se dedica a terminar con el tráfico de personas. Polaris opera la línea U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline y la mayor base de datos sobre tráfico humano de Norteamérica. Desde el 2011 al 2019, Joanne fue directora voluntaria regional de Not for Sale, una organización sin fines de lucro de nivel global que lucha contra el tráfico de personas.
Nacida en Nueva Jersey, se graduó como Bachelor of Arts en Ciencias Políticas y Justicia Criminal en la Universidad de Richmond y obtuvo su Juris Doctorate en la Facultad de Leyes de la Universidad de San Diego. Ella, junto a su marido, sus dos perros y dos gatos aman correr, el senderismo, la cata de vinos y las películas.
