Keep Calm and Carry On

My inclination is to naturally see the glass half full instead of half empty. I cannot help but notice how these times we are living in have changed people. After all, one of my favorite quotes in life and in coaching is “do not show me who you are when everything is going your way and life is perfect, your character will be revealed in tough times”.
In tennis, I had to thrive under pressure and my mind was trained as much as my body and because of this, I learned skills that have helped me throughout my life. These lessons have helped me adapt to different circumstances and keep me emotionally healthy, even when the whole world seems to be falling apart. To help you do the same, here are some of my top tips:

Spiritual Fitness

What is the point of being physically fit and looking amazing if you are falling apart on the inside? It is important to spend as much time on your spiritual health as you do on your physical health. Every morning I spend one hour reading or listening to a motivational or faith-based speaker that provides me with a message of positivity and allows me to grow and evolve as a human being. It is important to nurture our soul every day and to feed it beautiful positive messages that help us have a spirit of humility.

Respect Other Views

We are all entitled to have our own beliefs and opinions, but we do not have to impose them on others or fight to prove that we are right in what we think. Quite frankly, it is annoying and stressful to force your views onto someone that does not believe in the same things as you. Guess what? It is ok and can even be liberating to not care. If someone is annoying you with their opinion on politics or what is going on in the world, chances are you are annoying them too. Be open to listening and do not try to win the argument.

Tend To Your Garden

It is easy to get caught up in the news and everything that is going on in the world. It is important to distance ourselves from the world and to focus on our own garden – family, work, friends, and community. Those that are close to you are the ones that you can truly impact and nourish. Focus on the love and kindness around the people in your life and see how your perspective changes.

Change Your Attitude

It is not our problems or our circumstances, but how we react to them. We are always going to have problems, but if we always wait for our lives to be perfect to be happy, then we will live a very empty life. The reality is that we can all find happiness if we adjust our attitude and focus on the positives.

This Too Shall Pass

Everything changes, even if it is not today or if it seems that this will never end. The flowers will eventually come out so do not lose hope. Stay grateful and count your blessings.

Hopefully these tips will help you lead a healthier and happy life, even as we navigate these unprecedented times.
