Jack Maizel
Leading the Way
Jewish Federation of San Diego County is proud to announce Jack Maizel has been voted in as Board Chair Elect and will become Federation’s new Board Chair on July 1. Maizel joined the Federation Board in 2010 and most recently served as Vice Co-Chair Philanthropic Strategy. Maizel will succeed current Board Chair David Bramzon who concludes his two-year term as Federation Board Chair on June 30, 2021.
“Welcoming Jack is an honor,” Federation President & CEO, Michael Jeser shared with GB Magazine. “He brings the perfect mix of intellect, presence, compassion and vision to this organization at a time when our growth opportunity is truly limitless, thanks to the work of David Bramzon, for which I am grateful.”
A native of Mexico City, Maizel arrived to San Diego just shy of his 9th birthday. From a young age, he was immersed in his new Jewish Community that shaped his youth and adult life – as a student in several of our local Jewish Day Schools, a camper and then staff member at Ken Jewish Community, and an educator at Hebrew High.
“San Diego’s Jewish community welcomed me, nurtured me and played a key role in who I am today as a leader, as a philanthropist, and as a person,” Maizel said. “I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve my local and global community.”
Noting that he is excited to continue the valuable work of Bramzon and other chairs that preceded him, Maizel said, “The depth and breadth of the needs we address coupled with the opportunities before us are paled only by the heart and generosity of our community.”
Bringing his own strengths to the role, Maizel has held numerous leadership positions within the Federation world, including his participation in National Young Leadership Cabinet, Federation’s premier young leadership development program that educates and connects the next generation of global Jewish leaders and philanthropists. A Federation board member since 2010, he served as a Men’s Event Co-Chair, sat on the NexGen Board, and is currently Vice Co-Chair Philanthropic Strategy.
Most recently, Maizel was President of House of Israel in Balboa Park and has served on numerous philanthropic boards such as Agency for Jewish Education, Congregation Adat Yeshurun, Center for Jewish Culture, and the American Technion Society.
Professionally, he is Co-Founder and Managing Director of C Cubed Aerospace, a company that develops engineering solutions to convert passenger airplanes to cargo planes. He is also the Founder & President of A Culture of Peace, a nonprofit cultural foundation, which has produced concerts and music projects of Jewish and Israeli music, published meaningful literary projects and boasts Emmy award winning documentaries.
About his new role as Board Chair, Maizel said, “Together, with lay leadership and professional staff, I will work tirelessly on behalf of our generous donors who, through and with us, invest in a better and brighter tomorrow for the Jewish people.”
Maizel and his wife, Debbie, a Jewish leader in her own right (a current member of National Young Leadership Cabinet, former Big Sister with Jewish Family Service, and Co-Chair of her synagogue’s Gala) live in San Diego with their 1-year-old son, Alan.
