Hannah’s Family Center
Peace in the Family 5K Run & Walk
For over 30 years, Hannah’s Family Center, a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization, has helped families navigate unexpected challenges, traumas and loss throughout San Diego County. For 2022, the organization is hosting its inaugural Peace in the Family 5K Run & Walk to raise funding to deliver mental health counseling and services for families in need including child and teen witnesses and victims of domestic violence in the family.
Hannah’s Family Center offers a variety of services including therapy, classes, support groups and supervised visitations to families across San Diego. Their comprehensive services are specifically designed to help families safely navigate difficult issues including parental separation, divorce, substance use and domestic violence. The organization’s Family Substance Use Clinic, launched in 2020, expanded in 2021 to include counseling and education for the whole family. Free online kids and teens support groups were also introduced in 2021 to help San Diego County youth learn healthy ways to deal with the stresses they face when family life becomes unpredictable.
The 5K Run & Walk will take place on February 5, 2022, at NTC Park in Liberty Station, starting at 9 a.m. This family-friendly race is open to parents, kids, friends, colleagues and anyone interested in a fun morning that will help bring peaceful resolutions to more of our local families in need.
Registrants can sign up as individuals or part of a team and are encouraged to get creative in family-friendly ways by decking themselves and their teams out for the day. All registrants will receive a race t-shirt and bib and a participant medal at the finish line. Teams and individuals can compete for prizes including for most creative costume(s), largest team and more. Early bird registration is available but pricing goes up after January 30, and on the day of the event so register early. Tickets include race entry and access to the festival area with booths provided by our race sponsors.
“With a successful Peace in the Family 5K, Hannah’s will be able to offer more resources to better serve San Diego families before they are in crisis,” Susan Griffin, Executive Director of Hannah’s Family Center and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist shared with GB Magazine. “We are excited to launch this fundraiser to accelerate the healing of trauma and rebuild family bonds. Strong parenting and co-parenting skills that equip families to find positive solutions are critical to parents’ ability to successfully handle life’s challenges and enable their children to thrive.”
Hannah’s Family Helpline provides a free helpline with bilingual English and Spanish therapists who help with issues including tough parenting dilemmas, family conflict and navigation through the Family Court legal system. Families seeking this confidential resource can call 1-833-OUR-KIDZ (1-833-687-5439) seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
