Cal Coast is “Fore” Education
Supporters of the Cal Coast Cares Foundation gathered recently at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club in San Diego on for the 4th Annual Charity Golf Event, an exciting day of golf – all in the name of creating pathways for students and enriching education. This annual event, dedicated to raising funds for scholarships and grants, was a welcome outdoor gathering.
The socially-distanced event kicked off with a record turnout of over 180 golfers who were enthusiastic to spend time on the golf course for a meaningful cause. Attendees traveled from as far as Tennessee to enjoy the company of golfers from across San Diego County and Southern California. Due to the generosity of the event benefactors, over $78,000 was raised. High-level sponsors included New Cars Inc., PSCU, ALM First, Fifth Third Securities, and ANI Advanced Network, Inc.
“During such a challenging time in our community and nation, scholarships and grants dedicated to education are more important than ever. Cal Coast Credit Union recognizes that providing an opportunity to support individuals to pursue and achieve their academic goals is vital,” Todd Lane, president and CEO of Cal Coast Credit Union shared with GB Magazine.
The Cal Coast Cares Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, was established in 2015 to provide grants for teachers and scholarships for college-bound high school seniors, including a special program for current or former foster youth in San Diego and Riverside Counties. Since its inception, the Cal Coast Cares Foundation has awarded over $420,000 in scholarships to college-bound high school seniors, and more than $140,000 to educators at local schools.
Just in the past two years alone, over $180,000 in scholarships were awarded to students. A recent scholarship recipient, Hailey Qasawadish, shared how the award has made an impact on her life: “I am honored to be chosen as this means others have recognized my ambition, hard work and strong will to succeed. As a student planning to attend medical school with aspirations to become a surgeon, I am thankful to represent Cal Coast as a recipient of this award.”
In addition to scholarships, education grants fund classroom activities and curriculum focused on STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Arts and Math) subject-matters. Over the past two years, Cal Coast Cares Foundation has awarded over $80,000 in grants to educators to help make a difference in the lives of their students. These grants have facilitated dynamic learning tools including hydroponic greenhouse projects, robotics, chemistry kits and much more.
Due to its popularity and success, plans for the 5th Annual Cal Coast Charity Golf Event in 2022 are already underway!
