Changing Lives in San Diego
For over 80 years, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego (BGCGSD) has been dedicated to creating a safe space for youth to learn, grow and harness the greatness they hold within. Through various programs, children ages 5-18 are inspired to lead healthy lifestyles, succeed academically and develop positive character. These values are instilled in youth throughout 19 community-based sites across San Diego County.
The hardships brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic did not stop BGCGSD from its worthwhile mission. During the fall of 2020, instead of after-school programs, Clubs began operating during the day and helping kids navigate remote learning. It was new and challenging at times, but the success of the members outweighed the difficulties. Leading by example, BGCGSD showed perseverance, which inspired Club kids to do the same as they continued their education virtually. It was an excellent opportunity for the Clubs to be adaptable for the sake of their main goal – changing the lives of San Diego youth.
The organization invites you to Change Lives through their signature fundraising event, An Evening of Changing Lives. This special night brings together nearly 700 Club donors and community members, who provide crucial support. Their generous donations go directly toward programs and resources, allowing BGCGSD to impact participating youth positively. After a trying year, the Clubs are reopening and are excited to put donor support to great use.
An Evening of Changing Lives will occur at 6:00 pm on Saturday, September 25th, 2021, at the elegant Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina outdoor Marina Terrace. Join the Club for a night under the stars! This year’s event will be celebrated in a new way – appropriately distanced and outdoors to prioritize everyone’s safety. Enjoy live entertainment alongside the iconic Gaslamp Quarter and San Diego Harbor, all while making a difference.
A silent and live auction will take place, featuring spectacular items up for bids, such as a trip to the 2022 U.S. Open Golf in Brookline, Massachusetts, and first-class, roundtrip airfare for two to the dream destination of Maui, Hawaii! Another exciting auction item is a trip to the Willamette Valley for exclusive dining experiences and private wine tasting tours. Registered guests will have the opportunity to place bids on once-in-a-lifetime items in the silent auction two weeks before the event.
The purchase of a ticket includes cocktails, a delicious three-course dinner, and a live performance featuring the former lead vocalist for Journey, Steve Augeri! Come dance the night away to the legendary classics we all know and love, such as “Don’t Stop Believin’.”
