Celebrating 30 Years of Community Support, Empowering Latino Youth in Cinema
The Media Arts Center San Diego proudly presents the 30th annual San Diego Latino Film Festival at the Westfield Mission Valley AMC Theater at 1640 Camino Del Rio North in San Diego. In 1994, the festival began as a small-scale student film festival (“Cine Estudiantil”) with a two-fold mission of challenging negative cinematic stereotypes about the Latino experience and empowering Latino filmmakers to share stories that illustrate their rich Latino heritage. Over three decades, thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of local supporters, the event has continued to gain notoriety, expanding into what is now recognized as one of the world’s leading Latino Film Festivals.
“We could not have come this far without the invaluable assistance and encouragement from our growing community,” Ethan van Thillo, Executive Director and Founder of the San Diego Latino Film Festival shared with GB Magazine. “We are immensely grateful for the ongoing support that has kept this event alive, and we look forward to partnering on the journey towards another 30 years!”
One of the movies to be spotlighted at this special edition includes Mexico’s MAQUÍLLAME OTRA VEZ about two make-up artists struggling to make ends meet who get pulled into the chaotic lifestyle of a former friend who offers them a job they can’t refuse. Directed by Guillermo Calderón (Neruda, Emma), this irresistible comedy stars Mexican film and television stars Paulina Gaitán, Regina Blandón, and Ilse Salas!

30° Festival anual de cine latino de San Diego
Festejando los 30 años de apoyo de la comunidad en pos del empoderamiento de los jóvenes latinos en el cine.
Con mucho orgullo, The Media Arts Center San Diego presentó el 30° Festival anual de cine latino de San Diego, realizado en el cine AMC de Westfield Mission Valley, en el 1640 del Camino del Río de San Diego. En 1994 comenzó este festival de pequeña escala como “cine estudiantil”, con dos objetivos, el de desafiar los estereotipos negativos sobre la experiencia latina y el de empoderar a los productores de cine latinos para que compartieran sus historias sobre el rico legado latino. Luego de tres décadas y gracias al entusiasmo y dedicación de colaboradores locales, el evento sigue ganando notoriedad, creciendo hasta convertirse en uno de los festivales de cine latino más importantes del mundo.
