29th Annual San Diego Latino Film Festival
Returns to In-Person Screenings in New Venue
It is time once again to shine a spotlight on the best of the local cinematic arts as the San Diego Latino Film Festival gears up for its 29th edition. Even better, this year the 11-day event is returning to in-person screenings for the first time since the pandemic forced organizers to move to virtual and drive-in formats. The San Diego Film Festival has also found a new home at the AMC Theaters in Mission Valley.
This year’s festival will feature more than 160 Feature and Short Length films from the US, Mexico, Central America and South America. While in-person screenings are making their come-back, some of the films will still be available virtually. The event will also hold Question and Answer opportunities with filmmakers and special guests. There will also be various showcases throughout the festival including ¡SOMOS! Cine LGBTQ+ and ¡Viva Mujeres!
Amid the range of films being featured, there are two highly anticipated premieres. The first being the Mexican film, Poderoso Victoria. Directed by Raúl Ramón, the piece tells the story of a young mechanic who’s facing a tough decision after his town is cut off from civilization when its mine and railroad route are shut down.
The second high profile film premiering at the San Diego Film Festival is La Caja. In Golden Lion Winner Lorenzo Vigas’ latest, a young teenager travels to Northern Mexico to collect the remains of his father. However, a chance encounter with a mysterious stranger leads him down an unexpected path that tests the limits of loyalty.
The 29th San Diego Latino Film Festival runs from March 10 – 20, kicking off with an opening night press conference and party, and wrapping up with Sabor Latino: Food, Beer, and Wine Festival, and an awards announcement.
Nuevamente, es el momento de brillar bajo los reflectores de lo mejor del arte cinematográfico local, con el Festival de Cine Latino de San Diego preparando su 29° edición. Es más, este año el evento de 11 días de duración regresa a las proyecciones en la pantalla grande de manera presencial por primera vez desde que la pandemia obligó a los organizadores a mudarse al sistema virtual y formato de autocine. No solo esto, también el Festival de Cine de San Diego ha encontrado un nuevo hogar en AMC Theaters de Mission Valley.
La edición de este año contará con la proyección de más de 160 corto y largometrajes provenientes de Los Estados Unidos, México, Centroamérica y Sudamérica. Aunque las proyecciones presenciales están de vuelta, algunas de las películas también podrán ser vistas de manera virtual, inclusive habrá oportunidades de realizarles preguntas a los productores y artistas presentes y varias presentaciones especiales a lo largo del festival como ¡SOMOS! Cine LGBTQ+ y ¡Viva Mujeres!
Entre las películas que se presentarán, hay dos estrenos especialmente esperados. El primero, una película mexicana, Poderosa Victoria, dirigida por Raúl Ramón, narra la historia de un joven mecánico que se enfrenta a una difícil decisión luego de ver a su ciudad aislada de la civilización por el corte de las rutas ferroviarias y mineras.
El segundo, es el estreno de La Caja. Lorenzo Vigas, ganador del León de Oro presenta su más reciente obra, donde un joven viaja al norte de México en busca de los restos de su padre, pero el encuentro con un misterioso personaje lo lleva por un camino inesperado que pone a prueba sus lealtades.
La 29° edición del Festival de Cine Latino de San Diego será presentada desde el 10 al 20 de marzo, dando inicio con una conferencia de prensa nocturna seguida de una fiesta envuelta en sabor latino: comida, cerveza y vino para este festival, continuando con los anuncios de premiación.
