10 Things About Sandra Maas & Salvation Army
No matter your age or stage, never underestimate your power.
Even though The Salvation Army is a national organization, the money donated from San Diegans stays here in our community. Sandra Maas is co-chairing the Salvation Army’s “Women of Dedication Luncheon” to help raise funds for local Salvation Army programs, including the Adult Rehabilitation Centers, Coordinated Assistance for Residential Stability, Homeless Outreach, Shelter Transition Employment Program Services, and the Door of Hope residential facility.

#4 I was a life-long Cat Person until a Shiba Inu became part of our family. I learned more about loyalty and compassion from that dog than I have from most people. #6 After a life-long fear of heights I managed to skydive for our son’s 18th birthday. Jumping out of a plane at 13-thousand feet was truly exhilarating and taught me the “Sky’s the Limit.” I’ll never do it again. #7 My grandfather died soon after I married my husband. He was such a giving man of his time and treasure. After he died, we found out he was sponsoring orphans all over the world. #8 I started volunteering once I had children, which led to all of us participating in National Charity League and Teen Volunteers in Action. It taught us how lucky we are. [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_image src=”https://staging.gbsan.com/staging/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/3.22.19-9.jpg” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”center” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” _builder_version=”4.16″ box_shadow_style=”preset1″ global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”]
#9 During the late 90’s, I read a news story on the air about an elderly woman who had lost everything after an apartment fire. Afterwards, I received a call from Joan Kroc, one of The Salvation Army’s biggest benefactors. She saw the TV report and wanted to anonymously help this now homeless woman for the rest of her life. I think she would forgive me for spilling the beans now. These days I’m trying to pay it forward as the philanthropy Liaison for The Salvation Army Kroc Center. #10 The Door of Hope provides shelter to women like Elena and her two young children who have escaped from domestic violence. Elena is now getting job training and other life skills instruction. Elena says she feels safe and is grateful she can provide a future for her children.
