10 Things About Rosalie Gerevas & the Salvation Army
“We can do no great things – only small things with great love.” Mother Teresa
Since 1891, the Salvation Army has been working to provide sustainable solutions for the most vulnerable in our community. From immediate relief, to short-term help, to long-term, sustainable change, the Salvation Army is dedicated to serving the physical, mental and spiritual needs of the poor, the lonely, and the lost. Rosalie Gerevas was honored as a Woman of Dedication in 2014 and since then has served as their Board Secretary and Homeless Services Committee Chair, Salvation Army Metropolitan Board and Past President of the Women’s Auxiliary.
#1 I grew up in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn with my parents and extended family and friends all close by. I wish all children could grow up as I did, feeling safe and surrounded by love.
#2 My husband, Ron, and I both love Italy, especially the hill towns in Tuscany and, of course, Florence and Rome.
#3 In 2022, I resolve to start every day with a grateful heart.
#4 I was a fitness instructor for many years and still enjoy working out, running, hiking and taking long walks along the beautiful San Diego coast.
#5 My daughter and her husband brought back a Rosary from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. I have it with me almost every day.
#6 My favorite way to spend my free time is with my family and I especially love cooking and baking with my granddaughter, Sophia.
#7 The work that the Salvation Army did during the pandemic is nothing short of amazing! They serve those in need throughout our community in multiple ways but always with kindness and respect for each individual.
#8 Maria and her 16-year-old daughter have experienced homelessness on and off for several years. While living at The Salvation Army Door of Hope, this family was able to stabilize physically and emotionally. Maria’s number one goal was to secure employment in order to save money to create a safety net. Eight months after securing permanent employment, the family successfully and happily moved into a 2-bedroom apartment in El Cajon.
#9 The dedication of each Salvation Army officer and staff member always impresses me. They spend countless hours, including evenings and weekends, ensuring that those in need are cared for. More than 82 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to local programs which assures donors that the Salvation Army will be good stewards of the donations they receive.
#10 The Women of Dedication Luncheon is the signature fundraiser for Women’s Auxiliary. Proceeds support the many programs of the Salvation Army and provide funds for additional needs that would otherwise go unmet.
