10 Things About Rockette Ewell & ECS
“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
– Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
ECS’s mission is to break barriers and transform communities through programs rooted in their tradition of action and faith in God. ECS, a nonprofit organization, provides over $38 million in health and human services to more than 7,000 clients in the areas of homelessness, mental health, substance use disorder treatment, and early childhood education. All ECS programs offer additional wraparound services that follow a trauma-informed, strengths-based, needs-driven approach to engage students, family members, and clients. Moreover, ECS is dedicated to addressing the root causes of substance use disorders, homelessness, and poverty through a holistic approach that includes emergency assistance, transitional housing, and behavioral healthcare services while also advocating for policies that promote social justice and support vulnerable populations. Rockette Ewell is a member of the ECS Board of Directors.
#1 I was born in Bay City, Texas.
#2 My high school speech and drama teacher, Richard Gibson, had a tremendous impact on me. Not only did he literally and figuratively help me find my voice, the relationships I formed with the other members of that high school group are ones that endure to this day.
#3 My husband’s uncle, Henry Moore, was a Tuskegee Airman in WWII, stationed in Italy.
#4 I would like to learn to play the piano.
#5 My book recommendation is Isabel Wilkerson’s “The Warmth of Other Suns”.
#6 My favorite travel destination is Kauai, Hawaii. My husband and I also enjoy exploring California. We live in a beautiful state.
#7 I am deeply grateful for the life I have and the work I do. I believe that when you have been richly blessed, your priority should be to share those blessings with others.
#8 I am inspired whenever faith becomes action. It is one thing to believe, but it is transformative to see that belief express itself in actions that create positive change. That is the miracle of faith-based nonprofits like ECS. Every day, they meet individuals, children, and families where they are and provide a helping hand to support them on the journey to where they want to become.
#9 ECS Head Start provides comprehensive wraparound services like family and community engagement programs, parenting education opportunities, child developmental screenings, services for children with disabilities and pregnant women, behavioral health services, referrals, and other development needs to ensure the best possible outcomes for families.
#10 The Moonlight Ball will raise critical funds to support ECS programs that provide vital services to individuals and families facing homelessness, behavioral health issues, substance use disorders, and early childhood education needs.
