10 Things About Patty Campos & Cal Coast Cares Foundation
“Genuine kindness is no ordinary act, but a gift of rare beauty.”
~Sylvia Rossetti
Started by local teachers in 1929, California Coast Credit Union is a member-owned not-for-profit and is the longest serving financial institution in San Diego County. In 2015, Cal Coast started a non-profit – the Cal Coast Cares Foundation – that provides grants to local teachers and scholarships to local students, including a special program for foster students. Since the beginning, Cal Coast’s vision has been to foster a culture of service and commitment to our community. Patty Campos is one of Cal Coast’s many employees who share in their mission of giving back.
10 Things About Patty Campos & Cal Coast Cares Foundation
#1 I grew up in Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco Mexico from ages 9 to 16 and then we moved to Chula Vista.
#2 I am a Mexican Citizen.
#3 If I could live anywhere but San Diego, I would choose Yosemite, California.
#4 I am definitely a morning person – I am up at 5:30 am to exercise. I get on my treadmill followed by cardio exercises.
#5 I do not have any pets, but I do collect Giraffes!
#6 If I could write a law that everyone had to obey, it would be “Let’s be kind”.
#7 When I have free time, I take a walk.
#8 I love to crochet and make jewelry – necklaces mostly. I would love to learn how to knit and make other types of jewelry like rings and earrings.
#9 I recently assisted a member that was on a call with a fraudster who was saying he was from the IRS. He was asking her for personal information like social security number and other data. We immediately knew something was wrong when she approached our branch staff and we coached her on what to say. She avoided the scam and her funds and information remained secure. Unfortunately, these kinds of fraud attempts are all too common across the country, but it meant a lot to know that she trusted us to help her, and we were able to do so. Everyone needs to know that at no time does the IRS call to ask for these kinds of personal details and you should never provide them to strangers, especially on a phone call that you did not initiate.
#10 Our dedicated team of volunteers is at the heart of everything we do to support the communities we serve. This dedicated group of employees and staff is called our Cal Coast Cares Team. In 2019, we volunteered a total of more than 4,000 hours of personal time at nearly 150 events across San Diego and Riverside Counties. These events included charity 5K walks/runs, packaging food at local food banks, beach & park cleanup projects and so much more.
