10 Things About Patti Roscoe & Comic-Con Museum

The San Diego Comic Convention (SDCC or Comic-Con International) is a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation organized for charitable purposes and dedicated to creating the general public’s awareness of and appreciation for comics and related popular art forms, that celebrate the historic and ongoing contribution of comics to art and culture. Patti Roscoe is a founding member of Comic-Con Museum and former Co-Chair of the Steering Committee.
#1 I grew up in Buffalo, New York.
#2 My Mom and Dad were hard-working, blue-collar workers who provided a good living for us. My Aunt Cathy and my Uncle Danny lived with us. Each morning Aunt Cathy dressed in a suit, got her briefcase, gave me a kiss, and went off to her workday. She taught me lessons that shaped my life. One lesson was that I could do anything I set my mind to, a mantra my son learned at an early age and can parrot back to me.
#3 In my early twenties, I drove from Buffalo to Canada to legally street drag race my car.
#4 I have been skydiving a bunch of times and love that first step! It must be the speed!
#5 London and anywhere in New Zealand are my favorite places to travel.
#6 It is more important than ever to give back. Our nation and our world are in a fragile state and people are scared for their own and their loved ones’ survival.
#7 Giving back in time, treasure, and talent – in small or big ways – shows compassion and empathy to those needing help. Oftentimes, just a kind smile can help a person get through the day.
#8 The Comic-Con convention began in 1970 when a small group of comics, movie, and science fiction fans from San Diego put on an event attended by just 300 people. Since then, Comic-Con has grown into a global phenomenon and is widely recognized as the premier popular arts convention in the world.
#9 Having a Comic-Con Museum seemed like a natural extension of such a popular genre to create a permanent space in San Diego that celebrates comics and related popular arts year-round.
#10 Comic-Con Museum opened on November 26, 2021, with a vision to: thrive as a world-class attraction and gateway to the popular arts for life-long learning of San Diego residents and visitors; become a recognized leader in education by teaching through the lens of the popular arts in nontraditional settings; and positively impact and engage visitors of all ages and demographics through collaborative and engaging arts activities and programs designed to create a community of belonging.
