Onward & Upward

Miracle Babies unites families with their critically ill newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and reduces NICU admissions through prevention, education, and research. When Miracle Babies intervenes and provides key resources during the weeks following a child’s birth, they have the potential to positively impact health outcomes for an entire generation of children, changing the NICU experience from one of fear and helplessness to one of empowerment and positivity. Once a Miracle Baby herself, Micaiah Kenney now serves as the Board Secretary to Miracle Babies.

10 Things About Micaiah Kenney & Miracle Babies

#1 was born in Tyler, Texas and grew up in Austin, Texas.

#2 I believe in compassion and understanding; no one knows the path others are traveling and the journey they are facing.

#3 Argentina and Spain are my favorite travel destinations. I have good friends in Bariloche, Argentina. I studied at the University of Alicante in Spain and have traveled throughout the country many times. I hope our next family adventure will be to Greece and/or Portugal.

#4 At the top of my bucket list is to walk the Camino to Santiago de Compostela trail in Spain with my family.

#5 My favorite quote is “Onward & Upward” which to me means keep moving forward and when you feel like life has brought you down, you can only go up.

#6 We have a sweet loving Boxer named Lucy Claire. She is a rescue dog that we got from Last Chance at Life in Oceanside when she was 7-8 weeks old. She brings such light and joy to our lives.

#7 When I have a challenging day, I spend time with my family and our sweet dog, listening to music and watching funny movies.

#8 When I was diagnosed with Brain Cancer in 2017, instead of seeing it as insurmountable, I saw it as an opportunity to surround myself with people that I love and care about and took the time to realize how blessed I am with my support village including my fantastic medical team at UCSD.

#9 I have learned that people are inherently good and the power of positive thought and the healing energy that the universe provides can change the world. Even in the darkest of times, people continue to find light and hope, while spreading kindness, love, and positivity.

#10 I have a personal connection with Miracle Babies as I am a Miracle Baby. I was born almost 4 months premature weighing 1lb 13oz and spent my first 68 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) using a pediatric respirator developed by Dr. Forrest Bird. I was the first baby in East Texas at CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital to use this device to help sustain my life.
