10 Things About Maria Stanley & the San Diego Police Foundation
“Never give up!”
The San Diego Police Foundation is an independent 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization providing support for efforts that enhance police/community relations, crime prevention and public safety through funding for specialized equipment, training and cooperative community programs. The San Diego Police Foundation funds critical needs and shortages that shrinking budgets no longer cover. Honorary Chair, Maria Stanley and her daughters are assisting the San Diego Police Foundation with Women in Blue, an initiative that calls attention to the remarkable women who have pursued careers in law enforcement. This luncheon is your chance to join other San Diegans in celebrating a decade of recognizing and honoring heroic women.
10 Things About Maria Stanley & the San Diego Police Foundation
#1 I grew up in the Point Loma area of San Diego. I also lived in Anchorage, Alaska for 1 year.
#2. I believe it should be mandatory for everyone to practice patience.
#3. My favorite destination has been Vancouver, Canada. Loved it.
#4. I would like to see that all my grandchildren receive a quality education.
#5. I have a Goldendoodle. She is 18 months old and her name is Daffy. She is a great comfort and an excellent traveler!
#6. What has surprised me most in life is the fact that I was able to raise three bright, confident and beautiful women.
#7. I learned early on to never judge a book by its cover. It was one of the greatest things my mom ever taught me.
#8. It may sound simplistic, but my husband has always said, “when all else fails, rely on humor.” I was recently in an awkward situation, when asked in front of a large group, if my younger sister was my daughter. I answered by saying she was my older sister. Everyone laughed. Problem solved.
#9. Since 2002, the San Diego Police Foundation has purchased all 112 of the San Diego Police dogs at a cost of approximately $14,000 per dog. The San Diego Police Foundation also funds dogs who specialize in detecting the odor of narcotics and a dog that is trained to sniff out the chemical used in digital storage equipment to find evidence of child pornography hidden in flash drives and other devices.
#10. The standard issue soft body armor that is part of a police officer’s standard equipment, will not protect our men and women in blue from the rifle fire that is becoming more and more prevalent. Through the San Diego Police Foundation’s lifeSAVER Campaign, funds are being raised to purchase rifle-proof “plate carrier” vests. To date, 595 vests have been funded but 546 still need to be purchased. Please help us keep our officers safe when they are running towards danger during critical incidents.
