10 Things About Lisa Paul-Hill & Make-A-Wish San Diego

The Mission of Make-A-Wish is to create life changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Since its inception in 1983, the San Diego chapter of Make-A-Wish has granted over 4,800 wishes for local children in San Diego and Imperial Valley Counties. Once Lisa Paul-Hill witnessed the power of a wish, she was hooked. Lisa currently donates, volunteers and serves as the Make-A-Wish San Diego Board Secretary.
#1 We lived in Canoga Park near Los Angeles until I was eight years old when my parents moved us to Encinitas. At the time, Encinitas was a quiet beach town, with just a few businesses, surrounded by flower fields and open land.
#2 My real name is Militsa (pronounced Mee-leet-sa). I was named after my paternal grandmother from Yugoslavia.
#3 I wear two cocoa pod bracelets from Trinidad where my mom was from. These bracelets are a family tradition given at birth and symbolize the West Indian heritage as well as provide security and a bit of good luck. I never take them off!
#4 I would love to take my husband and my niece to Trinidad and Tobago to visit my mom’s family, experience the people, the culture, and take in all the beauty and tradition the islands have to offer.
#5 Looking back, I know it can be possible to balance work and life. It is important to give your best to both work and yourself.
#6 I have a 13-1/2-year-old rescue; he is a German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois mix named Dallas. He owns my heart, and he knows it.
#7 Irene Oberbauer was a former boss, mentor and treasured friend. Everyone needs an Irene in their life. Someone who believes in them, inspires them and supports them with gifted advice. 20 years ago, Irene began supporting Make-A-Wish and inspired me to become involved.
#8 Paying it forward can be so rewarding and any chance to make a difference in the life of a child battling a critical illness is truly a gift. Make-A-Wish has become one of my life passions.
#9 Ana’s autoimmune disease causes debilitating side effects changing her daily life dramatically. Ana’s passion for art remains constant, giving her the opportunity to express in drawings what she couldn’t share in words. Her wish to become an artist became an exciting reality when local graphic designers and comic book illustrators helped her bring two of her original characters to life as part of a mural at the local library.
#10 All funds raised from WINE & WISHES will go directly to granting local wishes for kids in our community.
