10 Things About Lisa Arnold & The Foundations of Sharp HealthCare

The Foundations of Sharp HealthCare support Sharp’s mission to improve the health of the San Diego community through charitable contributions for facilities, technology, scholarships for caregivers, innovative programs and research and access to care. Lisa Arnold joined the Sharp HealthCare Foundation Board in 2017 and is currently serving as their Chair.
#1 I grew up in Rochester, New York and moved to San Diego in 2016.
#2 Italy has my favorite cuisine and clothing designers, so yes, I eat and shop my way through the country.
#3 I am an avid NBA fan, and we have season tickets for the LA Clippers.
#4 My all-time favorite movie is “The Wizard of Oz”! The Tin Man, Scarecrow and Lion remind us that what we are looking for is already inside us.
#5 I recently enjoyed reading “The Good Life” which follows the longest scientific study of happiness ever conducted and it found that true happiness comes from the relationships of all kinds that we cultivate. And our deep connections with other people give us resilience and provide not only happiness but also purpose and meaning.
#6 One day I want to muster the courage to go skydiving. I am afraid of heights, so when I went paragliding off Torrey Pines it was a pretty big deal.
#7 Albert Einstein once said, “It is every man’s obligation to put back into the world at least the equivalent of what he takes out of it.” I was not only raised with this philosophy, but it is also part of the Jewish religion referred to as Tikkun Olam, which translates to “repair/improve the world.” It is said that the whole purpose of the Torah is to teach us how to do this.
#8 When people compliment me on my children, Ava (21) and Aaron (17), and tell me I did a great job raising them, I appreciate it. But the truth is, in many ways my children raised me. I am a better human being through and through because of them.
#9 When my son, Aaron, was born eight weeks premature and spent the four subsequent weeks in the NICU, I made myself a promise to make sure what was so freely given to me would be there for the next person.
#10 I got involved with Palmetto Health Foundation six months after giving birth and was directly involved with the fundraising and building of a new NICU where Aaron was born. As part of that process, I came to San Diego to tour Sharp Mary Birch. Their NICU design, state-of-the-art technology and programming was part of what our neonatologists strived to emulate.
