Puck once said, “Oh Lord, what fools these mortals be.”

The Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego (EFSDC) leads the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures and save lives. The Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving the San Diego community since 1954, offering personal advocacy and counseling, seizure first aid training, Expressive Arts therapy, and a variety of supportive services. All these services are free and are available to anyone whose life is touched by epilepsy, regardless of the severity of the disability and without regard to race, creed, age, sex or nationality. Kurt Mengel serves as President of the Board of Directors for Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County.

#1 I grew up in Santa Monica, California.

#2 My father was an amazing man and I still turn to him for advice even though he has been gone for many years.

#3 My favorite travel destination is Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania. Life changing. I would like to someday take a botanical tour of Madagascar.

#4 I am a cruciverbalist and have had many of my crossword puzzles published.

#5 My favorite sandwich is homemade tuna salad on toasted sour dough bread.

#6 I have two pugs: Frank and Beans.

#7 I developed epilepsy as an adult and turned to the Epilepsy Foundation for help. They were a godsend in helping me sort out my new situation. From there I was lucky enough to be asked to join the Board Of Directors.

#8 A diagnosis is often a person’s first experience with epilepsy. People are scared, overwhelmed and not sure where to turn. We are able to provide referrals and services to anyone who asks. People tell us that a call to the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County changed their lives and helped them on the path to living with epilepsy. We have hundreds of volunteers each year who come back to volunteer so that they can give back.

#9 One in ten people will experience a seizure in their lifetime and another one in twenty-six will be diagnosed with epilepsy. There are more than 55,000 people in San Diego County living with epilepsy.

#10 Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County provides all programs and services free of charge, including counseling, career development, advocacy information and referrals, as well as support groups for individuals, caregivers and families, and summer camps for children and teens. All event proceeds go to fund our services and programs to anyone who asks.
