“I don’t believe in the no-win scenario”.
-Captain James T. Kirk from “The Wrath of Khan”

The Fleet Science Center’s mission is to realize a San Diego where everyone is connected to the power of science. The Fleet provides over 215,000 student-hours of STEM instruction annually to students across San Diego County, which is equivalent to the STEM instruction hours of seven elementary schools. As Chair of the Fleet’s Board of Trustees, John Driver knows from personal experience how a career in technology can change the trajectory of a person’s life, and our community at large.

#1 My father was in the Navy until I was 13. We lived in Hawaii three times, California,
and Tennessee.

#2 I was a professional child actor/model during middle school and high school and landed a major role in a feature film “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” when I was 13.

#3 When I was in the 8th grade, I was asked to name someone who has positively impacted my life. I could only think of my dad. That is still my answer. He is my role model for being a husband and father, the two most important roles in life.

#4 My favorite vacation destination is Kauai. It is not overdeveloped and reminds me a little of what parts of Oahu were like during my childhood in the 70s.

#5 I would like to travel to South America. There and Antarctica are the two continents I have yet to visit.

#6 Our family has 3 pets: Ruby Mulligan, a mini golden-doodle and two cats named Jade
O’Malley and Opal Malone. Yes, there is a gemstone theme here – and they have Irish middle
names because we had such a fun family vacation in Ireland years back.

#7 My exposure to The Fleet started when my kids were little (we are empty nesters now). My wife Margaret and I would take them there often and accompany them on school field trips.

#8 The Fleet plays a unique role in introducing children, and adults, especially from San Diego’s underserved communities to the power of science.

#9 Kamden is a graduate of the BE WiSE (Better Education for Women in Science and Engineering) program who recently wrote this about the program: “The biggest blessing BeWiSE provided me was to embrace the significance of my thoughts, dreams, and self-worth. I earned my Bachelors of Science in biotechnology and am graduating with my MBA in finance this spring.”

#10 Guests will find the clues, see the “suspects” interviewed and solve the “Mystery at the Museum”. This fun event featuring a wine-paired dinner is a wonderful way to raise funds to help connect our community to the power of science.
