10 Things About Dr. Nikolas London & Champions for Health
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
Champions For Health addresses the unanswered healthcare needs of low-income and uninsured San Diego County residents. Ranulfo was a healthy 44-year-old with three children working at a fumigation company, but he was losing his vision rapidly. Dr. Nikolas London, a volunteer with Project Access since 2013, treated Ranulfo. Ranulfo says, “Dr. London has been an angel that God sent – he is the miracle I asked God for.” Dr. London will be receiving Champions for Health’s “Champion of the Year Award” at their annual Champions Soiree on March 19th.
#1 I grew up in a small town near Columbus, Ohio and we moved to the Bay Area when I was 8.
#2 My favorite place to visit is Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite Valley which has an incredibly beautiful campground, with majestic views, deer, hiking trails and rolling rivers.
#3 I haven’t made any resolutions. I try to be the best dad, husband, and doctor I can be.
#4 I spent a month volunteering with Doctors Without Borders in Myanmar with patients who had HIV.
#5 My wife is half Japanese, so I would like to take my family to Japan to visit their ancestral home.
#6 We have a Greater Swiss Mountain dog named Harper. She is 1.5 years old and a sweetheart.
#7 Remember that every decision that you make in life can impact you in the long run, in small and large ways.
#8 My Mother passed away when I was in medical school. She was a huge inspiration for me attending medical school. When she became sick with cancer toward the end of her life, her doctor was a little cold, and that left her with a feeling of pessimism. All she wanted from him, was that he was still on her side. That is what I always remember, and I say to my patients, “no matter what happens to you, I will always try to do what I can to help you.”
#9 There is a picture on my dresser of my Mother that I look at every day. I took care of her during the last month of her life. Her last words to me were, “Nik, I am so proud of you.”
