“To whom much is given, much is required in return.”

Heart disease is the Number 1 killer in women and is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined. Yet only 1 in 5 American women believe that heart disease is her greatest health threat. The American Heart Association has been working to save and improve lives for nearly 100 years. The American Heart Association advocates for change and removes barriers to health equity through science, community investment and improvements to health care access. Donna Marie Robinson credits the American Heart Association with saving her life and believes she would not be here today if not for the work they do. Donna Marie is paying it forward by serving on the San Diego Go Red for Women Executive Leadership Team and is also the Vice Chair for the Circle of Red.

10 Things About Donna Marie Robinson &
American Heart Association “San Diego Go Red For Women”

#1 I grew up in Chicago, Illinois.

#2 If I did not live in San Diego, I would choose Melbourne, Australia or Provence, France.

#3 I am a morning person; I am in bed between 10 and 10:30 pm.

#4 We rescued a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Kayle, when she was almost 3 years old and she just recently turned 10.

#5 I get my love of jazz from my dad. When I was young, he brought Mercer Ellington (Duke Ellington’s son) and his band over to our house one evening.

#6 I would love to be a master BBQ griller.

#7 When I have 30 minutes of free time, I read and look at new recipes to try.

#8 If I could write one law that everyone had to obey, it would be for people to be kind to each other; we do not know what paths others are traveling.

#9 Amy Heinl is an avid marathon runner and fitness devotee. Heart disease was the furthest thing from her mind – until she collapsed during an early-morning workout. A diagnosis of heart disease followed, and it took her completely by surprise. “I really couldn’t believe this happened to me,” Amy says. “I thought of myself as a healthy person, and I was exercising when it happened. I truly believed I had pulled a muscle.” Which is why her friend called 9-1-1, not Amy.

#10 The American Heart Association Go Red for Women campaign inspires women to make healthy lifestyle changes, mobilize communities, and shape policies to save lives. When you attend a campaign and get involved as a volunteer and supporter, you help to improve the health of women in your community. You make it possible for more women to receive the lifesaving information they need about their risk for heart disease and stroke and empower them to live stronger, healthier lives.
