Founded in 1965, San Diego Opera is a highly regarded member of the international opera community and an invaluable cultural resource to the San Diego region. The mission of San Diego Opera is to deliver exceptional performances and exciting, accessible programs to diverse audiences, focusing on community partnerships and the transformative and expressive power of the human voice. Clarice Perkins is a member of the Board of Directors of San Diego Opera and is Chairing the 2024 Opera Ball For All: World of Wonders honoring Robert Kaplan & Marina Baroff.
#1 I was born in Los Angeles but grew up in San Diego.
#2 I was married at 16 to my high school sweetheart Bill, and completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree while raising our 2 daughters.
#3 I am grateful to be able give back to my community and to hopefully make a difference.
#4 We are proud of our family who are carrying on the tradition of philanthropy which started with my parents. My parents were philanthropic – not necessarily with money, but with deeds.
#5 My husband and I have been privileged to travel to many exotic destinations like India, Myanmar, Egypt, Viet Nam, Russia and Iceland but we have decided to see more of our beautiful country.
#6 My husband is the opera aficionado, and he has taught me to appreciate it as well as value what it brings to our community.
#7 Before each performance, San Diego Opera offers guests enlightening pre-opera lectures to get you ready. After the curtain drops, we host our Talk-Back sessions where SDO insiders and cast members spend time with the audience.
#8 San Diego Opera’s purpose is to have the most positive impact on the communities beyond our venue. San Diego Opera serves thousands of students each year through our free education programs. Our “Words and Music” program is a collection of long-term in-school, after-school, and summer artist residencies. San Diego Opera Teaching Artists provide over 2,500 hours of arts instruction every year for young people.
#9 Equal Voices is a series that brings free opera to outdoor and indoor venues throughout San Diego County and the Cali-Baja region. This series focuses on cultural diversity and in particular showcases Spanish-language opera, art songs and popular songs.
#10 San Diego Opera not only performs world-class opera at the Civic Theatre, but our programs in the community are renowned for the in-depth, long-term approach that changes lives.
