10 Things About Bill Keitel & Feeding San Diego

38% of food produced is wasted yet 300,000 people in San Diego County are facing hunger. Feeding San Diego rescues edible, high-quality food that would otherwise go into a landfill and quickly redistributes it to those in need. Former Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Qualcomm, Bill Keitel currently serves as a board member of Feeding San Diego.
#1 I grew up in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. It had that small-town neighborhood feel that is harder to find these days. It was a safe haven and a great place to grow up.
#2 I was one of ten kids in my family and our 1,800 square foot home had one bathroom. Mom was a drill sergeant on weekday mornings. You knew if you did not get in the bathroom early you might have to wait until you got to school to go!
#3 My wife Jill and I have a small log cabin up in Northwest Wisconsin. It is next to a spring-fed lake with a lot of wildlife. Last time we were up there, a family of otters came around about every other day. It is quiet, peaceful and magical.
#4 I traveled so much in my career that airplanes and hotels and packing and repacking luggage is not high on my to-do list these days. Although, we may go to Madrid next spring.
#5 I cannot get rid of any books by Patrick O’Brian; I enjoy them so much. His work is all historical fiction.
#6 We currently have a goldendoodle named Bella. What I love most about her, whether you are gone a day, a week, or 30 minutes, when you come home you get the same unbelievably enthusiastic greeting.
#7 Some people think of a bucket list as something big that is a one-time thing. Having strong family and friend relationships is something on my bucket list, and I work continuously to achieve it.
#8 Community can be defined in so many different ways. Community could be your family, your neighborhood, your church, your town. For me, giving back to a community in a way that I can hopefully make a difference is what is important to me.
#9 Several years ago, Gwendolyn Sontheim (Feeding San Diego’s founder and current board chair) invited me to a Feeding San Diego event that she was hosting. After that, I did a little more research on Feeding San Diego, and I thought it was such a great idea.
#10 Feeding San Diego’s “Pairings with a Purpose Dinner Party” series brings San Diegans together for culinary experiences with purpose. We tap San Diego’s most exciting chefs to create a one-of-a-kind dinner in an unlikely location. All proceeds will help expand Feeding San Diego’s School Pantry Program.
