Girl Scouts San Diego builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

For 24 years, Girl Scouts San Diego’s Cool Women Celebration has honored more than 200 exemplary leaders for their positive contributions to the development of girls and women. This year’s event will shine a spotlight on five remarkable women from diverse fields – ranging from STEM and entrepreneurship to arts, law, and social impact – and acknowledge their efforts in breaking down barriers and paving the way for future generations. Through community support and by forging powerful connections between attendees, Girl Scouts San Diego is advancing female leadership in San Diego and Imperial counties. Barbara Bry and Divya Kakaiya are co-chairing the 2024 Cool Women Celebration.

6. Why do you think it is important to give back?
Barbara: I was raised in a Jewish household and tzedakah – making the world a fair and more just place – was viewed as a moral imperative.
Divya: I was raised by parents who were generous in the most amazing of ways. They taught us the value of giving more than taking.

7. Barbara: It is more important than ever to provide girls with opportunities to explore diverse activities and learn resilience in a supportive environment. Emerging Leader Girl Scouts grow their leadership skills, spend time with remarkable women, and learn how to make their own positive impact on the community.

8. Divya: The best part of the Cool Women Celebration is seeing the ways that the Emerging Leaders blossom right in front of us… their confidence and poise are outstanding. They meet women leaders in the community and become inspired to dream big. We are REALLY creating sisterhood… in a very deep way!

9. The Cool Women Celebration will highlight the achievements of 50 Emerging Leader Girl Scouts in grades 10-12 who are committed to developing their leadership skills and making a positive impact in the world.
